Helen Edwards, 57, will face a two year jail sentence if she does not hand over the cash within three months.Edwards was arrested at her home in April 2007 as officers raided the two brothels, in Hyde Park, Leeds, and Agbrigg, Wakefield.
At the time, two other women, both aged 32, were also arrested and £16,000 seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.The confiscation order, granted by Judge Grant at Leeds Crown Court, ordered Edwards, of Todmorden, to pay £60,000 immediately and the remaining £28,000 within three months, or face a jail sentence.A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police Crime Division said: "Our message to those who think they can profit from crime and get away with it is clear."We will use this legislation to strip you of the ill-gotten gains you've generated from your crimes."Financial investigators are located at every one of West Yorkshire Police's Divisions with the sole purpose of removing profits from the pockets of criminals.""Our officers work hard to root out those who believe they can live beyond their legitimate means and always welcome any information from the local community."
